Faced with “your solution is more expensive”, the seller: “You are absolutely right, we are more expensive to buy. And that is precisely because the total cost over three years is 20% lower.” The concession on price opens the way to the total-cost argument.
Concede the indefensible point (the price is higher, that is a fact) to shift the ground immediately onto where you are strong (the total cost, the durability).
Defuses the objection instead of denying it, which instantly lends the seller credibility.
If the “but” that follows is weak, the concession becomes an admission of weakness with nothing in return.
